    The app, screen by screen

    The window

Two things frame every page: the title bar across the top and the sidebar down the left. Learn these and the rest of the app is just pages.

    Available toAll plans

Every page sits inside this frame. This is a Free plan window.

    1. The sidebar toggle. Top left of the title bar. It collapses the sidebar to icons when you want the room.
    2. Pause protection. In the title bar on every page, for Free users and Teams admins. Members' devices don't have it.
    3. The sidebar. Your main pages: Dashboard, Controls, Reports, Activity and Sandbox. Teams admins get My Team under an Admin heading; Teams members see Team policy where Controls would be.
    4. Settings and Support sit at the bottom of the sidebar, separated from the main pages because you visit them rarely.
    5. Your account. Your name, the plan you're on — Free plan, Teams Member or Teams Admin — and, on a team, your organization. Sign out sits beside it and the app version underneath.

    Pause protection

Sometimes you need Locke out of the way — you're testing something, or a masked value is getting in the way of a specific task. Pause protection in the title bar stops Locke's desktop capture for as long as you choose. The menu says exactly what that means on your computer: on Windows it turns the system proxy off, on Linux it takes Locke's traffic redirect down. The browser extension is a separate surface with its own controls and keeps working.

Pick how long. Nothing happens until you confirm on the next step.

    Pause lengths
    OptionEnds
15 minutesAfter 15 minutes, or when you resume.
1 hourAfter an hour, or when you resume.
Until restartWhen Locke next starts, or when you resume.
Custom lengthAfter the length you type — 30m, 2h, 1d; a bare number means minutes. There is no upper limit.

Picking a length doesn't pause anything yet. The menu turns into a warning that, while paused, nothing that goes through Locke's desktop capture is screened or masked, with a button that names your choice — Pause for 1 hour, say — and Back.

The second step. Back returns to the list without pausing.

While paused, the title-bar button reads Resume protection; choose it to end the pause early. There is no countdown. The current state is also under Settings › Protection › Pausing capture, and on Linux locke pause and locke resume do the same from a terminal.

    The Screening… indicator

When Locke is checking a request before it is sent, the title bar shows Screening… with a small spinner — or Screening 2 requests… when there are several. Hover it and it says what it means: Locke is checking a request before it is sent, and nothing has been sent yet. It disappears when the check finishes, so most of the time you won't see it.

Locke's other signals come as desktop notifications, which you choose in Settings › Notifications — for example when the screening engine is down, when Browser Protection disconnects, or when a request will take a while to screen. Turning alerts off does not pause protection.

Your account, and closing the window

The account block at the bottom of the sidebar isn't a menu. To change your name or email, go to Settings › Account and choose Manage account, which opens your Sonomos account page in your browser. Sign out beside your name signs this app out of your account; on a Teams plan it does not release your team's policy.

Locke follows your system's light or dark theme by default; override it in Settings › General › Theme. On Windows the window has the usual title-bar buttons; on Linux Locke draws its own minimize and close buttons at the top right. Either way, closing the window doesn't stop protection. The app is a window onto Locke, and Locke keeps running when the window is closed. To stop screening for a while, use Pause protection; to turn Locke off for good, follow Settings › About & removal › Turning Locke off, and removing it, or see Uninstall Locke.
